Do I have to really convince you that milk and Oreos are great together? Adding Rice Krispy treats to the equation just sounded too good to resist myself from whipping up a batch. Perfect for the kids after school along with a tall glass of milk !
14 Oreo sandwich cookies
4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 (10 ounce ) bag mini marshmallows
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup non fat instant dry milk
Spray every bowl/spatula/pot/ pan that you may use, makes the job a lot easier. Grease a 9×9 pan with non-stick cooking spray. Place a piece of parchment and grease again.
Split 9 Oreos and save the halves(with the cream filling) to top the rice crispy squares (the filling makes it to adhere well ) . Coarsely chop the 9 plain halves and the remaining Oreos. A good chance to sneak in a little subtraction lesson when involving the little ones, ha ha! Add it to a large greased bowl along with Rice Krispies cereal and set aside.
Grease a medium non-stick cooking pan and a wooden spatula with non-stick cooking spray. Melt butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and keep stirring until fully melted. Switch off heat and immediately stir in the vanilla extract, salt and dry milk. Pour into the cereal mixture and mix well (a little elbow grease might be required) . Transfer into the prepared pan and press well , clean greased hands does an excellent job! Place the saved Oreo halves evenly on top and let cool until completely set. Cut into squares and serve.
Makes 16 squares.
