Fiery Chicken on Hummus

Hummus topped with chicken cooked with 3 kinds of chili peppers and cayenne powder and then garnished with grated boiled egg! Serve with pita bread or chips.

Hummus is a wonderful dip for almost anything but sometimes it needs a PIZZAZZ!!!


Enter our Fiery chicken!! Chicken cooked with loads of chili peppers, cayenne and paprika. Not for the faint of heart! Of course, you can always increase or decrease the peppers. But, why would you want to reduce ? This chicken can also be enjoyed with naans or as filling in a wrap or sandwich.


This is my favorite hummus recipe. You might notice that I have used toasted sesame seeds instead of tahini. It makes a delicious substitute. You will have run the food processor for a good 10 minutes to make a smooth humus.


To toast sesame and cumin seeds, heat a small skillet over medium heat and add both seeds, stir often until toasted and golden in color. Transfer to a bowl and cool completely.

Grated boiled egg is totally optional but it looks almost like grated cheese and is a wondeful contrast in color.



You can serve this dish one of two ways

  1. Spoon hummus in a bowl, top with some chicken and grate boiled egg on top. Serve with pita bread or chips.
  2. Spread some hummus inside a pita pocket, then some chciken and place sliced boiled egg.

Fiery Chicken on Hummus


Fiery chicken

3-4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 small red onion, thinly sliced

4 garlic cloves, sliced

4 Thai chillies, chopped

2 jalapeno peppers, sliced

1 anaheim pepper or a small poblano, sliced

3 boneless skinless chicken thighs, chopped into bite size pieces

2 teaspoons coriander powder

1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

2 large roma tomatoes, chopped


1 x 15 ounce can garbanzo beans, drain and reserve liquid

2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted

1 teaspoon cumin seeds, toasted

1 garlic clove

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Other ingredients:

2 hard boiled eggs

additional chilli peppers for garnish


To make fiery chicken,

Heat oil in a medium non-stick saucepan or a dutch oven over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and as soon as it splutters, add onion, garlic and chilli peppers. Saute for a few minutes until onions are transparent. Add chicken, coriander powder, cayenne pepper powder and paprika. Saute for 3-4 minutes until spices are toasted. Stir in tomatoes, cover saucepan and cook for 10 minutes (stirring occasionally). Uncover and cook until all moisture evaporates and oil starts to seperate from the chicken (stir often). Remove pan from heat and let cool completely.

To make hummus,

Combine all ingredients and 1/4 cup of the reserved liquid in a food processor and process for 10 minutes, scraping sides 2 or 3 times. Transfer to a container.

To serve,

-Spoon hummus in a bowl, top with some chicken and grate boiled egg over. Serve with pita bread or chips.

– Spread some hummus in pita pocket, place chicken evenly and sliced boiled egg.

Serves 3 as main course or 6-8 appetizers
