Healthy Halloween Mice <—- Another fun, impressive, creative Halloween snack idea

Let us look at the team players for this Owl grilled cheese Halloween sandwich:

Bread: I used Rye due to the almost black color like an owl. If you cannot find Rye then use any dark colored bread

Cheese: Choose a contrasting white colored mozzarella cheese. You might want to stay away from yellowish cheese like cheddar / American.

Filling: I didn’t use any, since I wanted to stay focussed on the construction of this grilled cheese Halloween sandwich.

Halloween Skull Linzer Cookies <—– Cute Halloween Cookie

Follow along for Step-by-step instructions on making a Halloween sandwich idea:

Step-1: Place two slices of bread on the counter

Step-2: Place 2 slices of mozzarella on one slice (we are going with double slice, since it contributes a more prominent whitish color. Cut cheese to fit.

We’ll need three round cookie cutters of different sizes, that are proportionate to the size of bread that you use. I’ve used 2 1/2-inch, 1 1/4-inch, 3/4-inch (If you notice, I’ve used a pastry tip for the smallest size. So, use whatever you can find around the home)

Step-3: Using the largest cutter, cut one circle (off-centered)  from the bread slice with no cheese

Step-4: Using the same cutter, cut another overlapping circle to get piece-1 and piece-2

Step-5: Place the bread slice over the cheese

Step-6: Using the middle cookie cutter, cut one circle (off-centered like this)  from each piece_1 and piece_2 and place over the cheese.

Step-7: Using the largest cutter, cut one piece (to get three pieces) from piece_1, to make the nose and wings.

Step-8: Place nose in between the eyes (you might have to snug it in)

Step-9: Fold the remaining cheese slice in half. Using the smallest cutter, cut 2 circles and place over eyes.

Step-10: Place two slice of olives for pupil

Step-11: Cut two small pieces of cheese and place on either side of the face (this will work as a glue to hold the wing in place. So, let this piece be smaller than the wings)

Step-12: Place two wings over the cheese and secure with toothpicks ( I broke one toothpick in half and used to secure each wing). We will remove the toothpicks before serving.

Step-13: Cook grilled cheese Halloween sandwich. Add some butter into a medium non-stick pan and place over medium heat. Hold the sandwich on both sides and gently place in the hot pan, cover with a lid and cook for about 3 minutes, until cheese begins to melt. (The sandwich will be cooked only on one side, for obvious reasons)

And we are DONE!!!!

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Rye bread (or any dark colored bread)
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 2 slices olive
  • 1 teaspoon butter, for cooking

Materials required

  • 3 circle cookie cutters ( 2 1/2-inch, 1 1/4-inch, 3/4-inch)

Instructions

  • Follow step-by-step pictures to construct sandwich.
  • Add butter into a medium non-stick pan and place over medium heat. Hold the sandwich on both sides and gently place in the hot pan, cover with a lid and cook for about 3 minutes, until cheese BEGINS to melt. (The sandwich will be cooked only on one side, for obvious reasons). Please make sure the sandwich doesn’t get burnt in the bottom.
    Remove both toothpicks before serving.

Notes

My choice of bread was rye, due to the dark color. But, you can use any dark colored bread.
Use any three round cutters that you have around that will proportionate to the bread. If you’ve noticed, I have used a piping tip for the smallest size.
Tip – Rectangular slice of bread makes a much better looking owl face than a square one.
