    maria doss.

This is my kind of lazy dinner—minimal effort, maximum comfort! When I don’t feel like cooking, this dump-and-bake ravioli casserole is my go-to. Just layer and bake, and you’ll have a cheesy, comforting meal the whole family will love.

The best part? It’s made with just 5 ingredients! I often assemble it in two baking dishes, bake one for dinner, and save the other for another busy night. It’s also perfect for potlucks, holidays, or bringing to a friend.

It’s an easy, satisfying vegetarian baked pasta that proves meatless meals can still be hearty and delicious.

    Lazy Lasagna

One reason this baked ravioli works so well as a lazy lasagna is that it replaces several lasagna components with a single shortcut. Traditional lasagna requires cooking noodles, preparing a cheese filling, seasoning each layer, and spending time assembling everything. Ravioli already comes filled with cheese and packed with flavor, so you get those same comforting, cheesy layers with a fraction of the effort—without spending hours in the kitchen. It’s an easy shortcut that saves time while still delivering that cozy, homemade taste everyone loves.

Does ravioli have to be boiled before baking?

No, that’s the beauty of this dump-and-bake ravioli recipe—there’s no need to boil the ravioli first! The ravioli cooks right in the sauce as it bakes, allowing it to absorb all that delicious flavor while becoming perfectly tender. The sauce provides the moisture needed to cook the pasta, which means one less pot to wash, less cleanup, and a much easier dinner on busy nights. It’s the perfect shortcut when you want a comforting homemade meal without the extra steps.

This cheesy baked ravioli pasta is a simple, crowd-pleasing pasta dish that gives you all the comfort of lasagna—without the extra work. If you are wondering what to do with that pack of refrigerated ravioli, then this no-boil baked ravioli casserole is a must-try!

Refrigerated or frozen ravioli to make baked ravioli?

I used a 20-ounce pack of refrigerated cheese ravioli, but feel free to use any filling you love — spinach, mushroom, or even meat!

If you're using frozen ravioli, there's no need to thaw it first. Just add an extra 15 minutes of baking time. The pasta will thaw and cook right in the sauce, soaking up all the yummy flavors while becoming perfectly tender — no extra steps needed!

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups marinara sauce I used Prego:tomato, basil & garlic
    • ⅓ cup heavy cream
    • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
    • 20 ounces refrigerated cheese ravioli uncooked
    • 2 to 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • ¼ cup grated parmesan

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with cooking spray.
    • Mix marinara sauce, heavy cream and red pepper flakes in a bowl.
    • Spread ¾ cup of combined sauce on the bottom of the baking dish and arrange half of the ravioli.
    • Spread ¾ cup sauce on top of the ravioli, sprinkle half the mozzarella and then arrange remaining ravioli.
    • Spread remaining sauce on top, sprinkle remaining mozzarella and the parmesan cheese.
    • Cover the pan with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
👉 Spray the innner side of the foil with cooking spray, to prevent it from sticking to the cheese while it bakes.
    • Remove the cover and broil for 3 to 5 minutes to brown the top slightly. Just watch it closely during this time. Remove from heat and serve!

    Notes

Feeding a smaller family? Cut the recipe in half and prepare the baked ravioli in a 8x8 inch square pan.
Frozen ravioli - If using frozen ravioli, then there is no knead to thaw it. Just add 15 minutes of additional baking time.
Ravioli filling - I chose cheese ravioli for a cheesy baked pasta dish reminiscent of lasagna. However, you can easily substitute with other fillings like four cheese, meat, mushroom, spinach and ricotta, or pesto for a different twist
Use a broiler safe casserole dish.
