What is Christmas fudge? This is a fun twist on the traditional chocolate fudge, incorporating vibrant festive colors. It boasts a creamy, rich texture and a sweet flavor like the peanut butter fudge recipe.

Fudge is a popular treat during the holidays, cherished for its sweet taste, creamy texture and ease of preparation, like the Easter nests. Its versatility allows for various flavors like chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla, or maple, offering customization to suit individual preferences.

Amidst the holiday season's hustle, having quick and straightforward recipes that demand few ingredients and mere minutes to prepare becomes incredibly convenient while promising to impress everyone around.

    Why you'll love this?

    • Only 2 ingredients and flavorings such as vanilla extract and salt.
    • No need for a candy thermometer.
    • Make it in under 5 minutes.
    • Smooth, creamy and melt in your mouth texture.
    • Festive and impressive.
    • Easy microwave recipe.

    Ingredients

Scroll down to the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and amounts.

    ingredients needed for the recipe.
    • Chocolate Chips -  While some opt for baking bars when making chocolate fudge, I prefer the convenience of semi-sweet chocolate chips. They are commonly found in most pantries, eliminating the need for chopping and melts faster. However, ensure you use high-quality chips for the most delicious Christmas fudge. More on this below.
    • Sweetened condensed milk - Like in almond kufli recipe, one can of sweetened condensed milk is the base of the Christmas fudge recipe.
    • Flavorings - Vanilla extract and salt elevates the sweetness.

Best chocolate to use - I prefer Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips over Nestlé's, as Nestlé chips tend to carry a slightly sweeter taste than Ghirardelli. This disparity could potentially result in the fudge being sweeter than intended. (This is not a sponsored post)

    How to make?

1 & 2. Add chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk into a microwave safe bowl.

    3. Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until it is melted and smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and salt. The mixture will be thick.

    4. Immediately transfer mixture into the foil lined springform pan, smooth top. Lightly grease the bottom of a glass or measuring cup with a bit of vegetable oil, then press the Christmas fudge mixture. This helps it set smoothly, eliminating any air pockets, resulting in an even top and facilitating even slices when cut.

Add a sprinkle of sea salt on top, along with your chosen toppings, then gently press them to ensure they stick. Refrigerate for a minimum of 6 hours or until the Christmas fudge becomes firm.

    Topping ideas

I opted for freeze-dried raspberries and chopped pistachios to add a festive touch with red and green elements, making them perfect for Christmas. However, if you prefer alternative red and green toppings, here are some suggestions you might consider.

    • Red and green M&M candies
    • Christmas sprinkles.
    • Dried cranberries or freeze dried starwberries instead of raspberries.
    • Red and green candied cherries as in Christmas icebox cookies.
    • Fruitcake mix.
    • Chopped jelly candies.
    • Red and green colored shredded or flaked coconut.

Pan size - I used 9-inch springform pan to create wedges, ensuring the Christmas fudge wasn't excessively thick. A 8-inch square pan will work, but the fudge squares will be slightly thicker and you will cut them into small squares. Regardless of the size you choose, line the pan with foil and lightly grease it with vegetable oil to easily lift the entire block out of the pan after it sets.

    Stovetop method

    1. In a medium sauce pan, bring 1 cup of water to simmering over low heat.
    2. Place a glass bowl on top of the pot so it rests above the simmering water, but doesn't touch it.
    3. Add the chocolate chips and condensed milk into the bowl and allow the steam to heat the bowl and melt everything. Stir occasionally until completely melted and smooth.
    4. Once melted, remove the bowl from the pot and stir in vanilla extract and salt.

    5. Immediately transfer mixture into the prepared pan, smooth top and chill.

    Serving suggestion

One batch of this Christmas fudge yields 10 to 14 wedges, depending on how you cut them. It makes it perfect for gift giving or adding to your Holiday cookie tray.

However, like the Halloween chocolate bark, this fudge is indulgent and sweet, it can be cut into thin wedges when enjoying with family.

How to package them for gift giving?

I like to insert a popsicle stick or a slender candy cane into the Christmas fudge, creating a resemblance to Christmas trees. Individually wrapping them in small treat bags or cellophane and tying them with a lovely ribbon makes for a beautiful homemade Christmas food gift to share with family and friends.

This Christmas fudge recipe is incredibly simple to prepare in your microwave, making it ideal for kids. It's nut-free, making it perfect for sharing with teachers or classroom holiday parties.

    How to store?

    • Room temperature - Store them in a sealed container at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. The Christmas fudge reaches an ideal consistency that melts as soon as you take a bite when it's at room temperature.
    • Fridge - The best way to store them longer is in the refrigerator.
    • Freezer - You can freeze the entire block of Christmas fudge (wrap in plastic wrap and then in a gallon size zipper bag). Let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator before slicing.

    Helpful Tips

    • Select your pan based on the shape and thickness you prefer for cutting.
    • Line the pan with parchment paper or foil, for easy removal. If using foil then make sure to lightly grease it.
    • Use good quality chocolate. I love to use Ghiradelli semi-sweet chips for all my dessert recipes.
    • Feel free to decorate with any toppings that you like.
