Ingredients
Scroll down to the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and amounts.
- Baby potatoes - Use small baby Yukon gold red potatoes, red skinned or multicolor potatoes.
- Oil - I recommend extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil to help them crisp up and brown nicely.
- Spices - I use a combination of paprika, garlic, onion, cumin, cayenne, salt and pepper.
Pro Tip: Wondering what type of baby potatoes are best for air frying? I prefer yellow potatoes for their rich, buttery flavor and creamy texture when air-fried. However, red, tri-color, and fingerlings (cut into thirds or smaller) work just as well.
Variations
Although these are as delicious as they are made, you can adjust the seasoning to suit your taste. Here are a few suggestions:
- Potatoes - Use red skinned or tri color potatoes instead of yellow.
- Ranch - Swap out the spices and season with dry ranch seasoning.
- Lemon herb - Omit cumin, onion and cayenne pepper and toss in dried or minced fresh herbs such as parsley, oregano, dill or Italian seasoning.
- Taco - Swap out the spices and use your favorite taco seasoning.

Tips for the best air fryer baby potatoes
- Ensure the potatoes are uniform in size - Cut larger ones in half to guarantee even cooking for all the pieces.
- Leave the skins on – The skin crisps up beautifully and takes on a delicious, salty flavor, all without the need to peel tiny potatoes. Just be sure to wash and scrub them thoroughly before cooking.
- Pat dry thoroughly - This helps the oil and spices stick to the potatoes, preventing them from sliding off.
- Don't over crowd the basket - This ensures that hot air circulates around the potatoes, crisping them up instead of steaming them.
- Give a shake half way through cooking - It helps the potatoes to cook evenly.
Storage and Reheating
If you’re lucky enough to have leftovers, they refrigerate and reheat really well.
- To Refrigerate: Air fried baby potatoes can be kept airtight in the fridge for 4-5 days.
- Freezing: Seal them in an airtight container or freezer bag and store them frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight before reheating.
- To reheat: I recommend reheating thawed roasted potatoes in the air fryer at 400ºF for a few minutes, or until warm and re-crisped.
How to serve?
These crispy roasted potatoes are incredibly versatile. Enjoy them for breakfast alongside eggs and sausage, toss them into a salad for lunch, or pair them with virtually any protein for dinner. I especially love serving them with my air fryer chicken recipes for a hassle-free cleanup.
FAQs
They are ready when the skin is crispy and deeply golden brown, and the insides are tender when pierced with a knife or fork.
No! Soaking is recommended for large or regular-sized potatoes cut into chunks to remove excess starch. However, since they are cooked whole with their skin on, soaking isn’t necessary. Just make sure to wash and scrub them thoroughly before air frying.
