How to make Black Forest Cake in microwave?

Step-1: Stir flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder and salt in a microwave safe mug.

Step-2: Stir in milk, vegetable oil, cherry liquor or vanilla extract and stir until smooth.

Step-3: Stir in chopped cherries

Step-4: Microwave for 1 minute and 45 seconds. The pioneer woman’s recipe suggests 1 minute and 30 seconds, this cake needs few seconds longer due to the addition of cherries.

Mug – A standard size microwave coffee mug works for this recipe. Please do not choose a smaller one.

Time

  • If you use a wider mug, then remove mug cake about 10-15 seconds before.
  • Remove promptly from the microwave. DO NOT COOK LONGER, It will make the cake dry.

Cherry liquor (Kirsch) – It adds the authentic black forest cake taste, but if you don’t have cherry liquor around, then vanilla extract works well.

Cherries – Bing cherries give the traditional black forest cake flavor. Other varieties are not recommended for this black forest mug cake recipe.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt

Wet ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cherry liquor (such as Kirsch) or vanilla extract 

Additional Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 Bing cherries, pits removed and chopped 
  • sweetened whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Add all dry ingredients into a microwave mug, stir well with a spoon or fork.
  2. Add all wet ingredients, mix until smooth. Stir in chopped cherries (reserving some for garnish later).
  3. Cook in microwave for one minute and 45 seconds (longer might make the cake dry) for a standard coffee mug and one minute and 40 seconds for a wider mug.
  4. Remove, let cool for about a minute before serving.
  5. Top with reserved cherries and sweetened whipped cream.
