If you're in need of a quick, last-minute Christmas treat to share with friends or neighbors, I've got you covered! These chocolate barks are also perfect for teachers or school, as they’re nut-free.

Chocolate bark is typically made by spreading melted chocolate into a thin layer and then adding a variety of toppings. Once the chocolate cools and hardens, it is broken into pieces, creating a "bark"-like texture, as I did for the Halloween bark.

Like chocolate peppermint bark, I chose to make this in a muffin pan to create individual-sized pieces. This not only makes it cute and fun, but also perfect for packaging as edible gifts.

Step 8 - Create a pretty pattern and dust lightly with confectioners sugar.

Why does melted white chocolate solidify faster than dark chocolate?

White chocolate solidifies faster than dark chocolate because it contains more cocoa butter and milk powder, while dark chocolate has a higher percentage of cocoa solids. The higher cocoa butter content in white chocolate causes it to harden more quickly, while the milk powder contributes to its firmer texture once set.

How to package for gift giving?

    • Cellophane bags - Place a few chocolate bark candy in transparent cellophane bags, tie with a festive ribbon or twine, and add a custom tag with a holiday message.
    • Christmas themed box - Line small, decorative Christmas boxes with parchment paper, then layer the white chocolate barks inside. This creates a polished and elegant presentation for your food gift.
    • Cookie tins - Line small, festive cookie tins with parchment paper, then layer the chocolate bark inside. This adds a charming, vintage touch to your gift.

    Recipe tips

    • Using a sharp knife, cut each M&M in half.
    • I used a similar decorating technique to create M&M flowers on the skull cookies, but feel free to get creative and add your own unique twist!
    • I used one 11-ounce bag of Ghiradelli white chocolate chips.
    • Use a good quality white chocolate.
    • Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a month. Before serving, let it sit at room temperature for at least an hour to soften.

    Equipment

    • Muffin pan
    • Paper liners

    Ingredients

    • 11 ounces white chocolate chips such as Ghiradelli
    • 50 to 70 red M&M candy cut in half
    • ¼ cup white chocolate chips
    • 1 teaspoon confectioners sugar for dusting
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners.
    • Add the 11 ounces of white chocolate chips into a microwave bowl and microwave for 60 to 90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds, until the chocolate is melted and is smooth.
Tip: I used one 11-ounce bag of Ghiradelli white chocolate chips
    • Pour about 1 ½ tablespoons of melted chocolate into each cupcake liner. Gently tap the pan on the counter a few times to help the chocolate spread into an even layer. Refrigerate for at least an hour, or until set.
    • In the meantime, break each M&M candy into two halves.
    • Melt the remaining ¼ cup white chocolate chips in the microwave until melted.
    • To decorate, carefully remove the set white chocolate bark from the paper liner and place it on a flat surface.
Use a toothpick to add a small amount of melted chocolate to the broken end of each M&M, then press it onto the bark. Repeat this process to create a decorative pattern as shown.
Tip: Melted white chocolate tends to harden faster than dark chocolate! If this happens, simply pop it in the microwave for 5 to 10 seconds to melt it again during the process.
    • Lightly dust the finished bark with confectioners' sugar. It adds a festive touch and helps conceal any imperfections!

    Notes

Feel free to get creative and add your own unique twist!
Use a good quality white chocolate.
Store white chocolate bark in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a month. Before serving, let it sit at room temperature for at least an hour to soften.
