Ready in 90 seconds! Incredibly simple and easy single serve, 4 ingredient, fudgy Nutella brownie mug cake – perfect for Valentines day, weeknight dessert, after school treat with milk or just about anytime!
Happy early Valentines Day!!
How are you gonna celebrate? Are you the “Dress up…fancy dinner… wine…” kind or the “pjs… cozy on the couch” kind?
I am totally the second category. Especially on a weekday, after work/kids school, homework, activities….on the couch it is!!
Dinner, dessert, open our favorite bottle of wine…..the best date night.
Here is a dessert for you to consider.
90 seconds. Microwave cooking. 4 ingredients. Can’t get easier than this.
Aaaand, it is so deep, dark chocolatey.
Here are the 4 ingredients to make this single serve, 4 ingredient, fudgy nutella brownie mug cake:
Nutella – The best thing out of a jar. Ever.
Milk – Preferably whole milk, but reduced fat is ok. Not fat free. It is a dessert after all!
All purpose flour – just a tablespoon
Cocoa powder – I used dutch processed
Salt – Salt is not usually counted as an ingredient.
Now, the obvious question:
Why did I use a ramekin for a Nutella mug cake recipe?
Just for Valentines day. A good old coffee mug works for all other days.
If making in a coffee mug – add all ingredients into the coffee mug, stir until smooth and microwave for 90 seconds.
If making in a ramekin – I used a 4 ounce ramekin which was perfect for this recipe and it was too small to stir ingredients in it. So, I preferred to mix all ingredients in a seperate bowl, transfer to the ramekin and cook. (refer pictures below —-> Left : batter before cooking / Right : after cooking)

You can enjoy single serve, 4 ingredient, fudgy nutella brownie mug cake as is or topped with :
- whipped cream and/or strawberries
- coarse sea salt
- drizzle of Nutella
- Dusting of confectioners sugar
- Vanilla ice cream
Why do I love this Nutella brownie in a mug? Because, it is just the perfect size to satisfy my chocolate craving. Not a gigantic portion. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times that I end up eating the entire dessert (or anything for that matter), just because it is there.
This recipe takes care of that issue. Portion control for the win!!!
When is a good time for this mug brownie?
- Late night craving
- After school treat
- Snack time
- Every time you crave for something chocolate or sweet.
