Air Fryer Omelet is the easiest way to make your morning eggs! Soft, fluffy and cheesy omelette recipe that's hands free! Once you have this basic recipe, the customizable options are limitless.
Omelets are not just for breakfast! They are fabulous for lunch or dinner too, especially when you are short on time.
There are two favorite methods to make an omelet - French and American methods. While both share striking similarities, they vary in presentation. The French omelette is rolled into an oval, while the American counterpart is presented in a folded fashion.
Like the zucchini frittata, air fryer omelet is less fussy, since it is baked or in this case air fried and not pan fried.
I've love making breakfast recipes using the air fryer for its fast cooking and hands-free approach, especially useful during those hectic morning rushes. Some of our favorites is the air fryer oatmeal or air fryer french toast, which are 5 ingredient breakfast recipes.

Why this recipe works?
I adopted three techniques in making this air fryer omelet, to ensure it attains restaurant-quality, all while safeguarding against dryness caused by the circulating hot air within the air fryer.
- Cooking low and slow in a 310-degree air fryer.
- Adding milk or cream. According to the chefs at Americas test kitchen "The fat in the dairy coats the protein and slows down the coagulation process. The water in the diary provides additional moisture which helps in keeping the eggs tender. The added liquid also provides more steam, which translates into fluffier, lighter eggs."
- Mix in cheese. It provides an extra guarantee for achieving a luxuriously creamy air fryer omelet.
Ingredients
Scroll down to the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and amounts.
- Eggs - I use 3 large eggs for this air fryer omelet recipe.
- Dairy - As mentioned earlier, a touch of milk coats the protein and slows down the coagulation process and the water provides additional moisture which helps in keeping the eggs tender. Use cream instead of milk for an even more luxurious and velvety texture.
- Cheese - Any melting cheese like cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey jack, goat cheese, or Mexican blend are all great options.
- Seasoning - While I opted for simple salt and pepper seasoning, the possibilities for flavoring are endless. Experiment with seasonings like red pepper flakes, cayenne, chili powder, taco seasoning, or Italian seasoning to customize your air fryer omelet.
Add-ins
What to put in omelets? Omelettes are incredibly versatile, allowing for endless flavor combinations to suit your taste. Here are some popular options:
Stir in chopped or thinly sliced red onions, bell peppers, chopped ham, bacon, chopped asparagus (I like to use the pan fried asparagus recipe), seeded and chopped Roma tomatoes or jalapeno peppers.
Pro tip: It's crucial to keep in mind that vegetables with high moisture content, such as zucchini, spinach, or mushrooms, can release excess moisture during cooking, potentially preventing your air fryer omelet from setting perfectly.
How to make?
You can find full printable recipe below, but here is a quick overview of the procedure along with step-by-step photos.
Pan size
I used the Instant Vortex 6-quart air fryer, which comfortably accommodates a 6-inch pan. You can opt for any size oven-safe pan, such as 8-inch, 6-inch, or 4-inch metal cake pans, or even ramekins that fit well in your air fryer basket. Adjust the quantity of eggs and cooking time to match the size of your chosen appliance. More details below.
Cooking time
This air fryer omelet recipe is developed for 3 eggs to be made in a 6-inch cake pan. You can modify the cooking time to make 2 or 4 eggs.
For 2 eggs in a 6-inch pan – Cooking time is about 7 minutes
For 4 eggs in a 6-inch pan – Cooking time is about 9 minutes

Serving suggestion
The air fryer omelet is perfect as is or topped with any of the following topping suggestions:
- Pico de Gallo or salsa
- Sliced avocado
- Sauteed garlic mushrooms
- Crumbled bacon
While a cheesy omelette pairs perfectly with a slice of toast and a glass of orange juice, consider elevating it for a light dinner or lunch by serving it alongside a vibrant side salad dressed with a light vinaigrette and crispy roasted potatoes.
Troubleshooting
There are few reasons for your air fryer omelet not turning out fluffy:
- Using fewer eggs or a larger pan - Using fewer eggs in proportion to the size of your pan can result in a thin, flat omelet rather than a fluffy one. Similarly, using a larger pan than necessary can spread the eggs too thinly, making it difficult to achieve the desired fluffiness.
- Cooking at a higher temperature - Cooking your omelette at too high a temperature can cause it to cook too quickly on the outside while remaining undercooked or raw underneath.
- Skipping cheese - Cheese not only adds flavor to your air fryer omelet but also contributes to its texture. The moisture and fat content in cheese help to create a creamy and fluffy texture in the eggs. Skipping cheese or using too little of it can result in a drier and less fluffy omelette.
- Overcooking - Overcooking can lead to a dense and rubbery texture rather than the desired light and fluffy consistency. It's important to cook the omelet until they it's just set and slightly moist in the center. Overcooking can cause the proteins in the eggs to become tough and compact, resulting in a less fluffy texture
Helpful tips
- Don't skip cheese. It adds creaminess and taste.
- Any melting cheeses like shredded cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey jack or Mexican blend are all great options.
- Use heavy cream or whole milk for a velvety texture and also luxuriousness.
